Minor 7ths

To do this tutorial you need to know what a tone is.

Summary

A minor 7th is a tone less than an octave.

  • So C-Bb is a minor 7th because Bb is a tone down from C,
  • and Eb-Db is a minor 7th because Db is a tone down from Eb.

Minor 7ths are often just called 7ths because they’re so much more common than major 7ths, so if you hear someone saying a 7th they probably mean a minor 7th.

To do

Test yourself on 7ths, focusing on the ones you find hardest. For most people they’ll be the ones on Db and F#.
